About U.W.I.S.E.R.T?
About: Headliner
In 2004, a non-profit, student-led volunteer organization was formed on the Rex Nettleford Hall of Residence by two medical students: Arlington Lightbourne and Trevor Bygrave. With the assistance of Dr. P. Jason Toppin, they began to answer the call for an improved Emergency Medical Service and an increase in Public Health Education. The organization is served by a group of vibrant UWI students from its headquarters, commonly known as the First Aid Unit (FAU). It is equipped with an Intermediate Life Support (ILS) stocked Ambulance based on Rex Nettleford Hall. Our ultimate goal is to support the development of Emergency Medical Services throughout the region and increase the capacity of the wider community to assist in providing care. The organization's formation got critical support from Ms. Donna Mae Jackson (Student Services and Development Manager of Rex Nettleford Hall) and Dr. Winsome Segree. Due to providing professional Emergency Medical Services and Public Health Education to the staff and students of UWI Mona over the years, UWISERT is known to be the ONLY student emergency response team in the Western Hemisphere!
